I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I did, and I’m so excited to share something that I did last weekend that is so out of the norm for me! I went to the Howard Theatre to see “A Drag Salute to the Divas!” It was my first time seeing a live, professional drag queen production. I had never even watched an episode of “Rupaul’s Drag Race.”
Although ambivalent about expectations, I was pleasantly surprised. The experience was quite refreshing and not over the top. The ambiance was casual and friendly. The “Mistress” of Ceremony was fabulous, funny, and very entertaining. The music was great and the performances were delightful.
It takes talent, and obviously lots of rehearsals, to do what they do. I give my respect to all of the performers. If you are going to emulate divas like Queen B, Lady Gaga, Jill Scott, Judy Garland, and Adele, you had better bring it, and bring it they did! I am glad, however, that I attended with friends. In my opinion, the Howard Theatre, based on its interior composition, is best suited for couples or groups.
Enough of me talking, check out some of the pictures and performances below.
